Naga woman lands dream job at world’s largest electronics maker Foxconn

Arentsungla Kichu

Arentsungla Kichu, a young Naga woman from Mokokchung, has achieved a remarkable milestone by securing employment at Foxconn, the world’s largest electronic components producer headquartered in Taipei, Taiwan. Kichu, an alumna of Assam Don Bosco University (ADBU), was hired under a tripartite cooperation project between Foxconn, the Taipei Economic and Cultural Centre (TECC), and ADBU.

Tripartite Cooperation Project Opens Doors

The project, which aims to strengthen industry-academia-government ties and increase employment prospects for Indian students, was initiated earlier this year when Foxconn signed Memorandum of Understanding with four Indian universities, including ADBU. Under the agreement, Foxconn will sponsor relevant subsidies for Mandarin teaching and learning and give priority consideration for employment opportunities to Mandarin learners from these institutions.

Kichu’s journey to success began in 2020 when she started learning Mandarin at ADBU. Her dedication and hard work paid off in 2022 when she was awarded the Huayu (Mandarin) enrichment scholarship from Taiwan’s Ministry of Education. This opportunity allowed her to spend six months in Taiwan, immersing herself in the language, culture, and lifestyle of the country.

Kuei-Mi LI, the teacher in charge of the Taiwan Education Centre at ADBU, revealed that Kichu received a prompt interview invitation from Foxconn following her return from Taiwan. After successfully navigating multiple rounds of interviews and tests, Kichu was thrilled to receive the offer letter from the company.

Gratitude and Determination

Reflecting on her experience, Kichu expressed gratitude towards her Mandarin instructor, Kuei-Mi, for the inspiration and support throughout the interview process. She emphasised the value of learning Mandarin and acknowledged that her proficiency in the language played a crucial role in securing this job opportunity.

Kichu is excited about the opportunity to work with Foxconn and is determined to make a significant impact in the coming years. She believes that working for one of the world’s top companies will expand her knowledge and skill set, proving beneficial for her future professional endeavours.
