Chido Obi-Martin, a 16-year-old forward in Arsenal’s youth academy, is turning heads with his remarkable goalscoring ability. The Danish teenager has been in scintillating form, netting an incredible 24 goals in his last 7 appearances for the Gunners’ Under-18 side. With two matches still remaining this season, Obi has already set a new club record with 28 goals.
In a recent match against Norwich City, he showcased his goalscoring prowess by scoring the first 7 goals in a 9-0 rout. Incredibly, he managed to score a hat-trick within just 17 minutes of the game. This outstanding performance came on the heels of another impressive display against West Ham United’s U18s, where he scored 5 goals just two weeks earlier.

Chido Obi first made global headlines back in November when, at the age of 15, he scored an astonishing 10 goals in Arsenal U16’s 14-3 victory over Liverpool. Despite playing above his age group, the physically imposing 6-foot-2 striker has adapted seamlessly to U18 football. In fact, he scored a hat-trick in his very first start at that level against Southampton in September.
The young forward’s goalscoring exploits have not gone unnoticed by Arsenal’s first team manager Mikel Arteta, who has brought him in to train with the senior squad. The club has high hopes that the precocious talent will sign his first professional contract with the Gunners when he turns 17 in November.

After playing twice for the England U16s in February 2023, he switched to Denmark U17s, helping them qualify for the European U17 Championships this summer with 3 goals. Denmark U17 coach Jesper Mikkelsen has praised Obi’s all-around abilities, highlighting his physicality, agility, and single-minded determination to score goals.
With his scholarship deal at Arsenal set to begin in 2024-25, Chido Obi appears to have a very bright future ahead of him. His incredible scoring rate at youth level has drawn comparisons to top strikers like Victor Osimhen.
