On September 12, 2024, the Department of Industries & Commerce, in collaboration with the GeM User Facilitator, organised a Workshop cum Training on GeM Functionality at the Conference Hall of the Directorate of Industries and Commerce in Kohima.
The event began with an inaugural address by Director of Industries & Commerce, P Tokugha Sema. Following this, a technical session was conducted by Supriti Priya, Trainer GeM, who presented an overview of GeM and its benefits. She also explained the registration and procurement process on the GeM platform. The session was followed by a discussion hour, allowing participants to clarify their doubts and engage with the trainer.
What is GeM?
GeM, or Government e-Marketplace, is an online platform designed for the public procurement of common use goods and services required by various government departments, organisations, and public sector units. Launched on August 9, 2016, by the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India, GeM aims to enhance transparency, efficiency, and speed in public procurement processes.

The workshop was crucial for educating participants about the functionalities and benefits of using GeM. By understanding how to effectively utilise this platform, government officials and procurement officers can streamline their procurement processes, ensuring greater transparency and efficiency.
