A major tree plantation campaign, aligning with the Prime Minister’s ‘Plant for Mother’ or ‘Ek Ped Ma Ke Nam’ initiative, unfolded at the New DC Office site in Wokha. This event marked a crucial step towards the ambitious goal of planting 80 crore trees across India by September 2024, with a broader target of 140 crore trees by March 2025.
Key officials spearheaded the campaign, including Vineet Kumar Wokha, Deputy Commissioner (IAS); Suman W.M. Sivachar, IFS, District Forest Officer of Wokha Forest Division; Nuhuta Tunyi, SDO Civil Wokha; and Sangmou Khiamniungan, NCS, EAC Wokha. Various departments such as the Wokha Forest Division, DIPR, DWO, AE, and CAWD joined forces in this green endeavour.

The event saw the planting of 300 saplings at the New DC Office site, reflecting the community’s unwavering commitment to environmental conservation and sustainability. The ‘Ek Ped Ma Ke Nam’ campaign aims not only to enhance green cover but also to raise awareness about the importance of tree planting in combating climate change and promoting ecological balance.
This initiative is part of a larger national drive to significantly increase India’s forest cover. By targeting the planting of 80 crore trees by September 2024 and 140 crore by March 2025, the campaign seeks to contribute to a healthier environment and mitigate the effects of climate change.
