Training program on mental health and disorders for teachers in Tuensang

The District Mental Health Programme (DMPH) in Tuensang recently organized a training program for teachers to enhance mental health awareness. The event, held at the Conference Hall of District Hospital Tuensang, aimed to educate teachers about mental health and disorders.

The training session was led by Dr. Senilo, a psychiatrist at District Hospital Tuensang. Dr. Senilo emphasized that mental health encompasses emotional, psychological, and social well-being. He explained that good mental health is crucial for living a balanced life and influences how individuals think, feel, and act. It also plays a significant role in handling stress and interacting with others.

Dr. Senilo highlighted that mental health disorders such as depression, anxiety, and schizophrenia are conditions that affect mood, thinking, and behavior. These disorders can be caused by a combination of genetic, biological, environmental, and psychological factors. He stressed the importance of early diagnosis and treatment in managing these conditions and improving the quality of life for those affected.

The psychiatrist also underscored the need for right information to dispel myths and misconceptions surrounding mental illness. He emphasized that breaking the stigma and discrimination associated with mental health issues is essential for creating a supportive environment.

The training program was well-received by the teachers who attended. The event was chaired by Yangkhumla, a clinical psychologist, with invocation pronounced by Kamchila, chaplain. Dr. Sakoyuba Imchen, Medical Superintendent, delivered the welcome address before the training session began.

The training session provided valuable insights into mental health awareness among teachers. It aimed to equip them with knowledge that they could use in their classrooms to support students’ mental well-being.
