On a sunny day in September 2024, Soyim Shisaluyimer Telongjem (SST) gathered at Yimtsüngta Arok Sapang, Ungma, to celebrate Teachers’ Day under the theme “Empowering Educators: Strengthening Resilience, Building Sustainability.” The event, held at noon, was graced by the presence of S. Arenla Longkumer, President of Watsu Mungdang, as the Guest Speaker.
Longkumer began her address by emphasising the profound impact teachers have on society. “Education is not just about learning within the four walls of a classroom; it is also about learning from the world outside,” she said. She highlighted that the efforts made by teachers in sowing the seeds of knowledge are never in vain, noting, “The real harvest for teachers is when they see their students succeed in life.”
Longkumer stressed the crucial role teachers play in the all-round development of a child. “Teachers should guide and lead their students spiritually and holistically,” she remarked. She described a teacher as much more than a mere instructor, saying, “A teacher is not just a ‘teacher’; he or she is a role model for the students.” She further elaborated on the significant influence teachers have on their students’ lives, stating, “A teacher plays a vital role in a student’s life. Students look up to them; the lifestyle they live directly or indirectly influences their students.”
Longkumer celebrated teachers as the “unsung heroes” of society, pouring their hearts and souls into shaping young minds, instilling values, and guiding them towards a brighter future. She commended their dedication, patience, and passion, describing them as the cornerstones of the education system. “You go above and beyond to make learning fun, engaging, and accessible to all. Your tireless efforts have helped us become the individuals we are today, and we are forever grateful,” she stated.

Longkumer expressed her gratitude for the daily sacrifices made by teachers, including early mornings, long hours, and endless paperwork. “You know that you’re making a difference,” she said, thanking the teachers for being role models, mentors, and friends to the children, for igniting their curiosity, creativity, and imagination, and for believing in them even when they doubt themselves.
The SST took the opportunity to commend teachers for their dedication and hard work. A special “Teacher Certificate Commendation” was awarded to several educators, including Er. Licali K Yeputhomi, Imtilila, Satyen Roy, Tushipenla, Putikokla Jamir, Talisenla, Imosungden Longkumer, Imtisangyu Longkumer, and Nukshisenla Jamir.
