The Deputy Commissioner of Kohima, Kumar Ramnikant, IAS, has announced the partial opening of a stretch of NH-29 near the Dzüdza bridge under Sechü-Zubza. However, this opening comes with significant restrictions.
The motorway will remain closed to all traffic from 6:00 am to 7:00 pm from 31 August to 2 September 2024. During this period, only heavy vehicles will be allowed to pass through between 7:00 pm and 6:00 am. Priority will be given to vehicles carrying essential commodities. Heavy passenger vehicles, such as buses, are not permitted until further notice.
The road is not serviceable for small and medium vehicles, prompting the Deputy Commissioner to urge commuters to continue using alternative routes. This decision aims to ensure safety and facilitate the ongoing restoration work on NH-29.

Following an ultimatum from the Nagaland Government to open the road by 29 August, the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) and the contractor have partially cleared the road. This has allowed unloaded lorries to pass through, marking a significant step towards full restoration.
The Deputy Commissioner has appealed to the general public for cooperation in the interest of safety and the restoration of NH-29. The public’s understanding and patience are crucial during this period as the authorities work to restore the motorway to its full capacity.
