The Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) has issued a call to prayer for all churches under its umbrella during the Sunday Devotional Service on August 25, 2024. This move comes in response to the Nagaland government’s consideration of partially lifting the Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition (NLTP) Act, 1989.
The state cabinet made this decision on August 22, 2024, with Minister for Power and State Spokesperson K.G. Kenye stating that they aim to lift the prohibition in certain areas. This announcement has sparked significant concern among believers in Nagaland, prompting the NBCC to urge collective prayer.
In a letter to Executive Directors/Executive Secretaries of all Baptist Associations under NBCC, General Secretary Rev. Dr. Zelhou Keyho emphasized that lifting the NLTP Act is a serious matter of concern for all believers. He emphasized that it is their duty to pray about this issue.
