Nagaland received an Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) from September 10-14, 2024, to assess the damages caused by recent monsoon disasters. This visit follows a memorandum sent by the State Government to the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India.
On September 10, the IMCT, led by Anant Kishore Saran, Joint Secretary (FF&R), MHA, GoI, had a briefing with the Chief Minister and officials from various line departments. The Chief Minister highlighted that Nagaland is prone to natural disasters such as mudslides, landslides, and land subsidence due to its topography. He emphasised the critical role of roadways in the state, noting that railway connectivity is limited to Dimapur. The Chief Minister expressed his hopes for the team’s support and requested them to address the needs of the people of Nagaland.
The IMCT includes MS Saravana Kumar, Superintending Engineer from the Ministry of Jal Shakti; Adelbert Susngi, Superintending Engineer from the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways; Ranjana Saini, Assistant Director from the Ministry of Rural Development; and Atul Bamnai, Section Officer from the Department of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance. The team will visit the districts of Zunheboto and Tuensang for on-the-spot assessments.

During their visit to Zunheboto district, the team inspected disaster-affected sites and interacted with the public. They also had a briefing session with the District Disaster Management Authorities (DDMAs) of Tuensang, Shamator, and Noklak districts. The team’s assessment is crucial as it will help in compiling data and submitting it to the Ministry of Home Affairs in the form of an NDRF Memorandum.
A debriefing session was held on September 13 with the Advisor to NSDMA and NRE, Nyuthe, the Chief Secretary, and other line departments. The Advisor expressed gratitude to the IMCT for their visit and provided a brief disaster profile of the state. Anant Kishore Saran, the Team Leader, thanked the State Government for their hospitality and praised the NSDMA for their progress in using modern technology to tackle disasters.
