Nagaland State Biodiversity Board sets guidelines for accessing biological resources

Nagaland State Biodiversity Board

The Nagaland State Biodiversity Board (NSBB) has announced new guidelines for accessing and utilising the state’s biological resources, emphasising the need for permission and proper procedures.

According to the NSBB, anyone seeking to access or collect biological resources and associated knowledge for research or commercial purposes must obtain permission from the Board. This requirement is outlined in Rule 18 (1) of the Nagaland Biological Diversity Rules 2012. Applications must be submitted in Form-I, accompanied by a fee of Rs. 100 for research purposes and Rs. 1,000 for commercial utilisation. The fee can be paid via cheque or Demand Draft.

Recognised traditional Naga healers are exempt from paying these fees, highlighting the Board’s commitment to preserving indigenous knowledge and practices. The fees are subject to modification over time, ensuring the regulations remain current and effective.

This website offers detailed information on the Biological Diversity Act 2002 and the relevant rules.

The guidelines specifically pertain to biological resources and associated knowledge covered under the Biological Diversity Act 2002. This ensures that all activities involving these resources are regulated and managed sustainably.

Compliance with these guidelines is crucial for maintaining the integrity of Nagaland’s biodiversity. By regulating access and utilisation, the NSBB aims to protect the state’s rich biological heritage while promoting responsible research and commercial activities.
