Nagaland PAC meeting to address Indo-Naga issue and FNT demand

A crucial meeting of the Political Affairs Committee (PAC) is set to take place on 28th August at 11:00 am in the State Banquet Hall. The meeting, convened by Minister KG Kenye, is expected to delve into the sensitive Indo-Naga political issue and the demand for the creation of a Frontier Nagaland Territory (FNT).

The circular inviting members to the meeting explicitly states that all 60 legislators of the 14th House of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly, along with representatives from various political parties including NDPP, BJP, NCP, NPP, LJP (RV), NPF, RPI (A), JD (U), and INC, are required to attend positively. This comprehensive attendance ensures that all stakeholders are present to discuss the pressing matters at hand.

The focus on the Indo-Naga political issue is significant given its historical and ongoing complexities. The demand for FNT by Eastern Nagaland People’s Organization (ENPO) has been a longstanding concern. Recently, a new team led by President A Chingmak Chang met Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio at his official residence in Kohima. During this meeting, ENPO reiterated its demand for FNT and urged the state government to provide its comments on this matter to the Ministry of Home Affairs at the earliest.

However, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio did not provide any specific timeline for when these comments would be submitted. ENPO also submitted a detailed representation to the Chief Minister during this meeting but the specifics of this representation remain undisclosed.

The Ministry of Home Affairs Committee, led by AK Mishra, is currently awaiting comments from the Nagaland Government regarding a working draft paper submitted last year. In a recent development, ENPO’s new team and former President R Tsapikiu Sangtam held an introductory meeting with the Ministry of Home Affairs Committee on 13th August 2024 at BSF Patgaon in Guwahati, Assam. This marathon meeting discussed the status of FNT and outlined potential action plans moving forward.
