On September 20, at the Nagaland Credit Empowerment Summit held at Noune Resort in Chümoukedima, the Government of Nagaland announced two innovative insurance schemes designed to bolster the financial security and well-being of its citizens.
The Digital Piggery Insurance Scheme, launched in collaboration with TataAIG, is a beacon of hope for farmers in Nagaland who rely heavily on piggery as a livelihood. This cutting-edge scheme streamlines the insurance process through digital verification and online claims processing, ensuring that farmers can access benefits swiftly and efficiently. Integrated into revised CMMFI loans, this mandatory insurance provides coverage of Rs 22,000 per pig, with a premium of Rs 1,557.
This initiative is a game-changer for farmers, shielding them from the financial devastation that can result from pandemics or diseases affecting their pigs. By offering doorstep claims processing, the government is making it easier for farmers to manage risks and secure their livelihoods.

In a move that underscores the government’s commitment to the welfare of its police force, the Accidental Insurance for Police Personnel was introduced. Effective since July 29, 2024, this free-of-cost insurance coverage provides critical financial protection to police personnel and their families in the event of accidental death or disability.
Currently, 24,087 serving police personnel are beneficiaries of this scheme, which is provided to all police personnel drawing their salary from the State Bank of India. The insurance offers a substantial payout of Rs 75 lakh in case of accidental death or full disability, and Rs 55 lakh for partial disability.
Both schemes are part of Nagaland’s broader effort to build a robust insurance ecosystem that supports various segments of society. The Digital Piggery Insurance Scheme not only simplifies the insurance process but also enhances support for piggery operations, making it easier for farmers to navigate the challenges associated with their livelihood.
