Kohima, Nagaland, has kicked off a two-day training session on the Integrated Road Accident Database (iRAD) and e-Detailed Accident Report (e-DAR), a significant move to bolster road safety in the state. Organized by the Motor Vehicles Department in collaboration with the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH) and the Nagaland State Centre (NIC), this initiative aims to equip various stakeholders with the tools to reduce accidents and save lives.
Secretary of the Transport Department, Robert Longchari, underscored the paramount importance of road safety in everyday life. While acknowledging the convenience of road transport, he highlighted the grim reality of increased accident risks, resulting in tragic losses and severe injuries.
Longchari emphasized that District Road Safety Committees have been established across Nagaland to implement comprehensive road safety programs throughout the year. The Motor Vehicles Department is at the forefront, ensuring strict adherence to guidelines set by the Nagaland Road Safety Authority and the Supreme Court committee on road safety.

The implementation of iRAD/e-DAR is set to revolutionize the way road accidents are reported and managed. This electronic system will provide real-time information, streamline accident reporting and claims processing, and help eliminate fraudulent claims. Longchari urged all stakeholders to work in unison to minimize accident and fatality rates, ultimately enhancing road safety and infrastructure.
Transport Commissioner Elias T. Lotha delivered a keynote address, highlighting Nagaland’s adoption of the Road Safety policy in 2017. This policy aims to integrate safety measures into daily life, positively impacting the lives of citizens. Lotha stressed the need for a mission-mode approach, emphasizing that roads are for everyone and should be used with courtesy and respect.
Chief General Manager of NICSI New Delhi, Jitender Kumar, provided a detailed overview of iRAD and e-DAR, explaining that the training is designed to sensitize stakeholders about this central repository for reporting, managing, and analyzing road accident data. This database is crucial for enhancing road safety nation-wide.

The welcome address was delivered by Additional Transport Commissioner Keneingunuo Clara, while SIO NIC Lanusungkum Aier shared the current status of iRAD and e-DAR in Nagaland. In the evening session, Program Manager Pawan Gupta from NICSI New Delhi will delve into data visualization, data analytics, road safety initiatives, and suggestions for improvement. He will also discuss the cashless treatment scheme for road accident victims during the critical golden hour.
