Minister Temjen Imna Along urges ENPO and legislators to unite for regional development

Temjen Imna Along

On September 23, Minister of Higher Education and Tourism, Temjen Imna Along, called for a crucial meeting between the Eastern Naga Peoples Organization (ENPO) and its legislators. This urgent appeal comes as the region prepares to receive a draft proposal for its development.

Along emphasized the importance of a thorough discussion between ENPO and its legislators to determine what is feasible and what is not. He underscored that these representatives play a pivotal role in shaping the future of the region. “With the draft proposal imminent, it is imperative that Eastern Naga legislators and ENPO engage in a comprehensive dialogue to identify what can be achieved and what cannot,” he stated.

The Minister highlighted that the Nagaland Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, has been steadfast in its commitment to inclusive governance. “The Chief Minister and the State cabinet are resolute in ensuring that Nagaland’s social and traditional fabric remains intact, unaltered by external agendas,” Along noted during a media interaction at the launch of the new Hyundai Alcazar at Vuto Hyundai Kohima.

Regarding the Political Affairs Committee (PAC)’s request for a new interlocutor, Along clarified that this does not reflect dissatisfaction with the current interlocutor but rather a desire for stronger leadership to expedite the resolution of the Naga Political issue. “The PAC seeks a robust leader to serve as an interlocutor, providing a more formidable platform for an early resolution,” he explained.

Along stressed the necessity of finding common ground and engaging in constructive dialogue with Delhi. “We must converge on a shared understanding and communicate effectively with Delhi,” he added, emphasizing the need for collaborative efforts to resolve ongoing issues.

The Working Committee (WC) of the Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs) had previously expressed concerns that the Nagaland government’s resolution to appoint a new interlocutor was an attempt to undermine and delay the political solution. However, Along reassured that the 16-member legislature, led by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, has collectively decided on the best course of action, transcending party affiliations.
