A one-day targeted intervention training on mental health for healthcare workers was held at District Hospital, Peren. Sunupienla, a psychiatric social worker from the District Mental Health Programme (DMHP), and Temsurenla Aier, an assistant professor at Northeast Christian University (NECU), Dimapur, were the resource persons. Sunupienla discussed the introduction of the National Mental Health Programme (NMHP) and its district-level implementation.
She highlighted the shortage of psychiatric doctors in the state and explained the importance of mental health, factors affecting it, and how to identify mental health problems. She also addressed common myths and misconceptions about mental illnesses.
Additionally, she briefed participants about the Tele-MANAS toll-free number 14416, which provides remote mental health services. Temsurenla Aier spoke on the importance of soft skills in mental health and the roles of mental health professionals.
