The global gaming industry, valued at $200 billion, sees India representing 17-20% of the world’s gamers. The Indian Digital Gaming Society (IDGS) highlights the nation’s significant potential in digital gaming and the need to build new capabilities and invest in technology and infrastructure to support growth.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has interacted with young gamers, indicating the government’s recognition of gaming as a special talent. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting is set to host the AVGC summit, which includes a dedicated pillar for gaming. IDGS Vice President Sean Hyunil Sohn noted that esports are evolving and gaining global recognition, with inclusion in the Olympics presenting exciting opportunities.
The industry’s workforce has grown 20 times from 2018 to 2023, with a remarkable 97.56% CAGR, making it a key employment sector. The sector’s contribution to the AVGC industry is projected to rise from 41% in 2019 to 68% by 2026.
