Immanuel Higher Secondary School in Zunheboto recently hosted a vibrant two-day event, the “Literary and Cultural Gala,” from August 9 to 10. With the theme “Harmonising Literature and Culture,” the gala offered students a platform to showcase their diverse talents in both literary and cultural activities.
Day 1: Celebrating Literary Prowess
The first day of the gala kicked off with an invocation prayer led by the school’s chaplain, Miss Ghukatoli. Miss Tony Kiho then took the stage to enlighten the audience about the significance of Literary Day, setting the tone for a day brimming with intellectual engagement. Students eagerly participated in a variety of literary competitions, including a Spelling Bee and a Quiz Competition. Adding to the excitement were activities such as dance performances, prepared orations, and spirited debates.
Sir Isak Assumi organised recreational activities, injecting fun and interaction into the day’s events. Miss Linovi Kiba managed the schedule efficiently, ensuring everything ran smoothly. The Master of Ceremonies, Sir Boloto Achumi, guided the proceedings with enthusiasm and grace. The day concluded with a benediction, leaving participants inspired and looking forward to the cultural festivities of the following day.

Day 2: Embracing Cultural Heritage
The second day shifted focus to the rich cultural heritage of the Immanuelites. The day began with an invocation prayer by Ma’am Naro, followed by a captivating cultural display featuring traditional attire and performances. Dr. Vihuto T. Asumi addressed the gathering, emphasising the importance of preserving cultural heritage for future generations.
A melodic folk song performance added a musical delight to the proceedings. Mr. Hutoshe Y. Chophi (Sütsa Shikükau) delivered a speech on the day’s significance, highlighting the importance of cultural appreciation. Cultural competitions were a major highlight, featuring events such as War Cry for both boys and girls, Akhstsü for boys, and Puxa Kuxu for girls. These competitions demonstrated the students’ enthusiasm and dedication to their cultural roots.

The Grand Finale of the Immanuel Singing Star, eagerly anticipated by all, showcased the musical talents of the students. A captivating folk tale performance further enriched the cultural experience, immersing the audience in the storytelling traditions of the region.
Closing Ceremony and Accolades
The gala concluded with a heartfelt closing ceremony conducted by the teachers. The results of all the competitions were announced, recognising the hard work and talent of the participants. Miss Linovi Kiba delivered a sincere Vote of Thanks, expressing gratitude to everyone who contributed to the event’s success. Asu Toluvi Asumi led the final benediction, bringing the “Literary and Cultural Gala” to a close.
