On September 19, 2024, a pivotal consultative meeting took place in Yonglok village, Longleng, to discuss the proposed railway belt from Dimapur to Tizit, Mon. Chaired by MLA B. Bangtick Phom, the gathering brought together key stakeholders, including Deputy Commissioner W. Manpai Phom, the SP of Longleng, the President of the Phom Peoples Council, and representatives from affected village councils.
The meeting delved into the potential impact of the railway project on local communities. MLA B. Bangtick Phom stressed the importance of cooperation from all parties involved to ensure the project’s success. He urged village authorities to issue necessary No Objection Certificates (NOCs) to move the project forward.
Three villages—Yonglok, Shetep, and Namahching—will be directly affected by the railway belt. Participants agreed to convene a joint sitting with stakeholders along the proposed route, starting from Dimapur and extending to other villages and towns. This collaborative effort aims to address concerns and ensure that the project benefits all affected communities. The request will be presented to the Chief Minister of Nagaland by the concerned MLA.

The meeting concluded with a principle agreement to issue NOCs, provided that beneficiaries receive compensation according to approved government rates. Additionally, there was a strong demand for a full-fledged railway station at Yonglok Village to serve Longleng District.
Bura Namsang Village Council, the parent village of the affected villages, expressed no objections to the developmental activities planned by the government. This support is crucial as it aligns with the broader community’s acceptance of the project.
