Brie Larson’s UK theatre debut set with Elektra in 2025

Brie Larson

Brie Larson, the Academy Award-winning actress, is poised to make her highly anticipated UK stage debut in a gripping new adaptation of Sophocles’ Greek tragedy, Elektra. The 34-year-old Hollywood star will take centre stage in the iconic role, as the production premieres in Brighton before making its way to London’s renowned West End.

A Timeless Tale of Vengeance and Emotional Turmoil

Elektra weaves a powerful narrative of a young woman consumed by grief and driven to avenge her father’s murder. Larson will embody the title character, who joins forces with her estranged brother Orestes to seek retribution. Renowned poet Anne Carson’s fresh translation promises to breathe new life into this ancient story, blurring the boundaries between the past and present.

Expressing her enthusiasm for the project, Larson shared,

“Storytelling has always been my way of processing life, emotions, and experiences. I’m thrilled to share this timeless story with the West End audience and collaborate with the talented Daniel Fish and Anne Carson.”

Empire Street Productions, the masterminds behind triumphant West End shows like Prima Facie, Slave Play, and The Pillowman, will bring Elektra to life on stage.

From Brighton to the West End: A Journey of Emotion

Elektra will first captivate audiences at the Theatre Royal Brighton from January 13 to 18, 2025, before making its way to London’s Duke of York’s Theatre for an 11-week engagement starting January 24, 2025. This production marks Larson’s return to the stage after her 2010 performance as Emily in Our Town at the Williamstown Theatre Festival in Massachusetts.
