To promote mental health awareness and combat substance abuse, the Assam Rifles, in collaboration with the Department of Social Welfare, Nagaland, and Acts Foundation in Mokokchung, organized the “Breaking the Silence” campaign. This event aimed to raise awareness about mental health and substance abuse, particularly among the youth.
The campaign featured prominent personalities including Kenie Ritse, Miss Northeast 2023, and Hikali Achumi, Miss Nagaland 2022. These individuals collaborated with Assam Rifles through ‘KRIPA, ACTS Foundation,’ and ‘Dept. of Social Welfare, Nagaland’ to highlight the importance of mental well-being and the dangers of substance abuse.
The event saw enthusiastic participation with a total of 763 attendees from various departments including Assam Rifles, civil authorities, Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police Mokokchung district, teachers, and students from colleges and schools in Mokokchung District.
Speaking at the program, Commandant 12 Assam Rifles, Colonel Rahul Gurung, emphasized the urgent need to address issues like mental health and substance abuse to save and safeguard local communities. Kenie Ritse spoke about mental health, emphasizing stress management during exams and post-exam results for students. A pledge was administered by all attendees led by Hikali Achumi under the initiative of Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (Drug-Free India).

The campaign aimed to encourage open conversations, challenge stigmas, and empower young minds to seek help without fear of judgment. It provided a unique platform for participants to engage in meaningful dialogue and take away essential knowledge and tools to contribute to a healthier society.

The initiative has already begun its first phase in Kohima and will continue to reach various communities across Nagaland.
