Kohima finds itself grappling with the aftermath of a devastating incident that claimed the life of Kezhalelie Lawrence Miasalhou, a respected figure in the community. The assault, which occurred on the evening of May 18, 2024, has left the city in a state of shock and mourning.

According to the Kohima Police, a report was received at the North Police Station, indicating that an elderly man had been hospitalised following a physical assault stemming from a traffic-related altercation. The victim, identified as Kezhalelie Lawrence Miasalhou, tragically succumbed to his injuries on May 19, 2024.

The police have swiftly responded to the incident, registering a criminal case and arresting two individuals in connection with the assault. Neizosetuo Kire, aged 24, and Khrietsonyü Whuorie, aged 25, both residents of Kohima village, have been taken into custody as the primary suspects in this case.

Miasalhou, a well-known figure in Kohima, served as the Personal Assistant to the Deputy Commissioner and held the esteemed position of President of Mezomia Mechü Kehou, a prominent local organisation. His untimely demise has left a void in the community, with many mourning the loss of a dedicated public servant and leader.

In response to this tragic event, the Western Angami Youth Organisation (WAYO) has announced its intention to organise a public rally on May 20, 2024. The rally, set to commence at 10:00 AM at Paramedical Junction in Kohima, aims to express the community’s outrage and demand justice for what they are calling the “murder” of Miasalhou.

The WAYO has called upon all Western Angami citizens to participate in the rally, urging them to assemble at the designated point by 9:30 AM. The procession will then make its way to the office of the Deputy Commissioner, where a memorandum will be submitted, highlighting the community’s concerns and demands.

As Kohima comes to terms with this heartbreaking incident, the public rally serves as a testament to the unity and solidarity of its citizens in the face of adversity. The community stands together in their quest for justice, ensuring that the memory of Kezhalelie Lawrence Miasalhou is honoured and that those responsible for his untimely death are held accountable.
